Jake Johnson Will Move to Defensive End This Spring

With Spring workouts just a few weeks away, the Coaches have already started lining up their two deep for this upcoming season.  One of the main topics floating around on Virginia Tech message boards was a possible position change for the Hokies junior Jake Johnson.  After two seasons at Backer, Jake will switch from outside linebacker to the end position, which is the Hokies boundary defensive end.

With both Nekos Brown and Jason Worilds departing after last season, Jake will compete with Chris Drager for the starting spot at end while Stephen Friday and some of the younger players compete at the rush end position.

Jake finished last season with 55 tackles in 11 games.  Johnson started at Backer for the first eight games until he was benched in favor of Sophomore Lyndell Gibson.
