Virginia Tech Recruiting

Update 7/6/10

Two players will be announcing their verbal commitments this weekend and surprisingly they'll happen simultaneously.  Three star quarterback Marquise Williams will announce his choice at 3 pm on Saturday and three star QB David Watford is following the same plan as well.  It appears that Williams will likely don the baby blue of UNC.  Last week, I expected Watford to be all VT but now it appears that he'll likely commit to West Virginia.  It appears that the Hokies are setting their sights on Lafante Thourogood and will only take one quarterback in this class now.  LT is expect to commit sometime in August.

Update 6/15/10

I haven't updated this section as much as I've wanted to but hopefully that will change this summer.  Currently, the Hokies are looking at the possibility of receiving four verbal commits by the end of June.  Corey Marshall (Rivals 250 member and 4 star DT) will announce his plans later on this month.  Most expect him to announce for Virginia Tech.  Also, DB Adeboye Aromire is expect to commit this coming friday (6/18/10) and he too will likely commit to Virginia Tech.  Three star QB Marquise Williams is announcing his college intentions at the end of June as well and he is down to UNC and Virginia Tech.  Right now, UNC may be the team to beat but the Hokies have a fighting chance in this one.  Finally, four star OT Kiaro Holts (Kris Harley's teammate at Warren Central) is committing at the end of this month.  Holts just returned from a Florida trip and could easily end up at Florida.  However, with VT receiving numerous visits I would think the Hokies could be a darkhorse in this race. Im not getting my hopes up but Tech does have a shot here.

Update 3/6/2010

Fayetteville, North Carolina tight end Eric Maclain has garnered a lot of attention so far and holds offers from the likes of Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Clemson, Duke, UNC, USC, Tennessee, and West Virginia.  Maclain is already beginning to take some trips as he has visited NC State, Duke and Tennessee already and will visit Clemson and Virginia Tech in the future.  In a Palmetto Sports Update Maclain states that he will "go to Virginia Tech sometime in May and Clemson in the next couple of weeks."  At this poing the Hokies are in the mix, especially with early playing time at tight end being a major selling point for Tech.  However, until he visits Blacksburg, we won't know how serious he is about Virginia Tech.  With so many offers I have a hard time seeing Eric committing early, so that longer this plays out the better it could be for the Hokies.

Atlanta, Georgia cornerback Damian Swann has listed his top four and surprising the Hokies are squarely in the mix for the future Rivals100 member. According to a Atlanta Journal-Constitution article, Swann lists his top four as "Alabama has been my top school for the past couple of months, probably since my season ended,” said Swann, who said he’s hoping to drive over to Tuscaloosa this weekend. “And then Georgia and I have Florida and Virginia Tech. Those are some people I’ve really been in a lot of contact with. Those are the top four.”  Getting Swann up to Blacksburg this spring would help the Hokies chances as they seem to be behind the three SEC schools at this point.
